How do they stay alive?

before the computer i used to go down to the gas station almost every day and buy a newspaper.now i just go online and read it for free.how do they stay alive,im mean isnt it like giving away their biz for free?do they actually think that maybe me reading it online will entice me to go buy it?or do they get paid by advertisement?Newspapers do not earn any profits from the price that we pay them. It is through the sponsorship of advertisements tht they earn and the ads are there online too. So the newspaper is not giving its business for free, it is rather expanding its business!

Also, sometimes people get addicted to a particular newspaper and maybe at some stage, you might subscribe to them. This will earn them profit too.

You also might use the newspaper to give advertisements in the classified. Thus the newspapers are really expanding businesse and clientele.

Do et me know if this helps! One of the nice things about the Internet is the ability to get a lot of free information. Part of it is paid by advertising. Part of it is simply good business sense. It gets the company known, it enhances its reputation, and the more people that read the free information, the more the company can charge for the advertising.

Many web sites are a public service provided by entities that earn their money elsewhere. Some are provided simply because the provider wants to perform a good deed. Doing something for free is an old American habit. It does not exist in many parts of the world. This is a wonderful society.
